A great first exposure to Peter Soulages
The famous Pompidou Center, a major retrospective, the work of a of the greatest painters of the current French scene, Pierre Soulages. On the eve of his 90th birthday, Soulages, "painter of black and light, "is recognized as one of the major figures of abstraction.
The Pompidou Center has devoted a great first exposure to Peter Soulages in 1979 in response to that presented at the National Museum of Art Modern in 1967, before the opening of the Center. Tracing more than 60 years painting, the exhibition this fall allows a new reading of artist's work focusing on recent developments in its work.
The exhibition brings together over one hundred major works created for 1946 to today, stunning walnut husk of the years 1947-1949 paintings of recent years (mostly unpublished) which show the dynamism and diversity of work still in progress.
The first part of the exhibition focuses on the founding period the work of Pierre Soulages with an important set of first paintings on paper and tar on the famous glass and a choice Paint the most representative for the years 1950 to 1970.
In 1979, Pierre Soulages, who have painted for over thirty years, entering a new phase of his work he described as "black addition "Affirms that the light scattered by reflections on a surface completely covered in black. By focusing on this unique pigment and the relationship of black light, he designed a pictorial space which, despite the use of a single color, is the opposite of monochrome in the trajectory of modern art. The exhibition clearly demonstrate that "another painting in all its diversity.
